Self Love

Sometimes we are so busy in our lives that we forget things. We forget to run an errand, forget to pick up the clothes at the dry cleaners, forget what we were just thinking about, forget to eat.... sometimes we are SO busy we even forget to take care of ourselves.

I really noticed that I was forgetting to do a lot of things after I had my second baby. I was so concentrated on making sure everyone else was OK I forgot about me. I was tired. I was taking care of two kids and a husband. I was drained. I was physically, mentally, and emotionally drained. I wanted to do everything. Even after recovering from a c-section and dealing with a very colicky baby.... I wanted to do it all. I can't begin to tell you how many tears I shed during the first few months after baby number 2.

This is something not a lot of moms talk about, and they should. Do you know why? Because it's OK. It's OK to feel sad. It's OK to feel frustrated at yourself and the kids. It's OK to feel burnt out. It's OK to not do it all. It's OK to not be perfect.

I was constantly telling myself how useless I was and that I could just never get it right or that I would never catch up to life again. I was being so hard on myself. I caused myself so much unnecessary pain.

I had to pull myself together for the sake of my kids. My two year old started to see how emotional I was getting. I had to start inflecting self love.  It was time I started taking care of myself so that I could take care of my family. If I didn't feel good and if I didn't love myself, how could I expect anyone else to?

This is when I realized I had to start letting things go. I had to start asking for help. I had to tell myself, "you can't do it all. It's OK to ask for help." I started asking my mom and mother in law to watch the kids on the weekends so I could get some rest. I started doing my nails, doing my hair and putting on some makeup again. I even recently discovered PaintNite (which is so much fun!). I just needed a day every so often to feel good about myself again.

It took some time, but almost 8 months later, I am almost at peace with myself. I still want to do it all... be a great mom, a great wife, a great business owner... but now I notice when I need to slow down. My mind is saying about 1000 things a minute and a part of me says, "you know what... let's go for a walk with the kids and get some fresh air."

My best advice is listen to what you're saying to yourself. Because what you say to yourself affects what the universe brings back to you. Be sure to be kind to yourself because you are amazing and you're doing the best you can do. Take care of yourself first and everything else will come into place. You don't have to be a mom to implement self care and self love into your life. This is for everyone. Listening to positive affirmations on YouTube and reading inspirational quotes on Pinterest really helps to boost me up when I'm feeling down.

Remember, you are not alone in how you feel. Remember to take time out just for you.

Until next time my Beauties.

Mommy Fears

How did our moms do it? How do women of more than two children manage? How am I going to survive with two kids? How will I manage to spend enough time with my oldest while attending to my infant? Will my oldest be jealous? Will he be upset with me? What am I going to do if they are crying for my attention at the same time?

_NIR2480 copy.jpg

These are questions I often asked myself before I had my second son. The first few weeks were difficult…. No sleep, hardly eating, trying to breastfeed, and trying to survive with a toddler and a newborn was HARD WORK. I often felt bad and still feel bad for my oldest when my infant is crying and they both need me at the same time. It’s not easy. And as a mom, you feel helpless when you can’t attend to both kids at the same time. Am I still a good mom? Does my son still love me even though I can’t attend to him right away like he’s used to?

The good news about being a mom of more than one… it gets better. I was so nervous during my second pregnancy. Everyone told me how jealous my oldest will be of his little brother. They told me to buy gifts. Give my oldest tons of attention.

But you know what?

I started teaching my son that he would soon have a baby brother when I was about 8 months pregnant. He didn’t get it. When we came home from the hospital, I was dying to see my oldest. I missed him so much. When he came home, I was eager to show him his new sibling. My son, came to the bassinette and looked at his baby brother… he didn’t do or say anything. A few days passed and my oldest would check in on his baby brother every so often looking over him… still not saying anything. A couple weeks passed and my oldest started saying, “baby brother”.

Today, my oldest LOVES his baby brother. We can spend an entire day with my oldest showing his baby brother shapes, colors, numbers, etc. He loves to teach his baby brother everything he’s doing. My infant continuously smiles when he hears his big brother talk to him. My oldest loves giving kisses to his baby brother.

These boys are melting my heart everyday.

Some days are not easy. Some days are amazing. Some days are rewarding. I have so much love with my little boys and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

There’s so much more to my new life and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Until next time!

Sanitation 101

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard horror stories about artists using unsanitary practices. I have personally seen other artists double dipping mascara... lipsticks... cream eyeliner (just to name a few) on multiple clients. The problem is, most clients either don’t know what proper sanitation techniques a Professional Makeup Artist should be using or they are too scared to say anything. Unless your artist is going to give you that mascara tube, they should not be using that mascara on you unless it is used with a disposable mascara wand.

Any cream products including foundations and lipsticks should be properly scooped out with a spatula. There are many Instagram and YouTube "artists" who use the same Tarte Shape Tape and LA Girl Pro Concealer applicators on the same clients over and over again. This is a big NO NO. Do you really want the same product applied on you as it was on at least 15 other people? Once these products have been double dipped they are no longer good to use on a client. I always carry a spatula and a palette in my kit which is cleaned off between clients.

Clean and ready to go!

Clean and ready to go!

As a Professional Makeup Artist, it is our responsibility to keep our kits clean. We are in contact with so many clients on a regular basis, if we do not properly clean our makeup and tools, clients are subject to things like acne, pink eye, the common cold, flu, cold sores, and so on.

A lot of artists spot clean between clients – which is completely fine! One thing you need to make sure is that the brush bristles must be properly saturated with the brush cleaner before actually cleaning the brush. A fine mist of brush spray just doesn’t cut it for cleaning your brushes. For me personally, I have a ton of makeup brushes so that I am not cleaning in between clients. I simply don’t have the patience to clean my brushes between each client. I wash all of my brushes after each booking with soap and water and spray with 70% alcohol once it’s dried.

When working on clients, I NEVER mix my dirty and clean brushes. I always separate my brushes this way I am also never using the same brush on different clients.

Make sure your artist has disposables such as lip and mascara wands. Also things like q-tips and extra makeup sponges are essentials in a Professional Makeup Artist’s kit. If your “artist” does not have these items or does not practice any of these sanitization practices, these are HUGE red flags.

One other sanitation issue I see a lot of artists doing is blowing on false lashes to have them dry faster before applying it to the client’s eyes. This is so disgusting I cannot even tell you. I would not even blow on my own lashes before applying them myself. The bacteria and germs from your mouth should say enough… If your artist does this please them know this is inappropriate and unacceptable.

I can only hope this blog has created awareness for you and you now have a better idea on what to look out for when working with a Professional Makeup Artist.

Until next time my Beauties!

What Products Do I Use in My Kit?

One of the questions I get asked the most is, what products I use in my makeup kit.

I have never been a person who is all about the hype in pretty much anything I do or buy. What matters to me the most is knowing that the products I am using actually works. In saying that, here are some makeup staples in my kit which I am going to repurchase until I find something else I enjoy:

Makeup Forever HD Foundation

Makeup Forever Ultra HD Concealer

Face Atelier Ultra Foundation

Tarte Marcuja Oil (Which is like the best face oil EVER!!!!)

Tarte Marcuja C-brightener eye cream

Tarteist clay paint eyeliner

Tarte Rainforest in the Sea Water Foundation (LOVE!!!)

Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer

Motives Setting Spray

MAC Lip Scrub

For eye shadows, I have been loving the Violet Voss Pro Holy Grail Palette! It has been my go to for most of my clients especially my bridal clients.

For matte colors, the Tartelette Amazonian Clay Palette has been my go to for both subtle and more dramatic looks so I love the diversity the palette gives.

This isn't a list of all the items in my kit however this are my go-to's on pretty much any booking.

Although I do have some MAC products in my kit (which is the number one question I get asked, ALL THE TIME), I prefer to be diverse in the products that I choose and offer higher end products which clients would not typically buy on their own.

I am interested in trying some out some more luxury makeup products in 2018 and upgrading my kit. I’d love to know what some of your must-have’s are. Leave a comment below and let me know!

Another thing that is truly important to me in making booking flow easily is how I pack my makeup kit. I consider myself to be a very organized person so functionality is a must for me. It didn't take me overnight to get to this kit (which I am super proud of!). This has taken much trial and error.

The Girl Behind the Brush

Who am I can be such a difficult question to answer… Today, I find myself being many things from a wife, mom, business owner, daughter, and mommy-to-be (again). Life is very busy for me but most days I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way.

I get asked all the time how did I get into freelancing as a makeup artist and hair stylist. The truth is that I sort of stumbled upon this. I am a Human Resources professional with a business background so naturally I have the business sense. I’ve always considered myself to be a creative person and back in 2013 when I found myself extremely bored at work, I started to look into other avenues to feed my soul.

That’s when I came across Makeup Artistry. I decided to take on a few courses and I instantly loved it. I found myself being challenged in a different way and found that I was constantly learning.

Today, in 2017, I truly feel that I have found my passion. It’s not hard to get up at 3 or 4am to get dressed for my early morning bride. What makes me so happy in my role as an MUAH is I am making YOU happy. Whether you are a bride or attending an event, it’s always exciting to see my clients excited about their day. I consider myself to be very lucky in meeting women of various ethnicities and cultures. When I speak with my clients I really do get to know them in the short time frame that we get with each other but it’s always amazing to hear about world travelers, long loves, how you’ve met your significant other… I pride myself in providing the best customer service I could possibly offer for any of my clients and I’d like to hope that they also feel the same.

On a personal note, I’ve been with my SO for 12 years now (yes, I know!) and we have been married for now for 6 years! We have a happy and handsome baby boy (not to mention he’s a little smarty pants!) and another baby boy on the way. All these boys in my life sure do keep me busy. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family. Life is moving by so fast and my son will be two before you know… pretty soon I’ll also be a mom of two and to be honest, it’s a little bit scary the second time around!

Even with my busy lifestyle, I am determined to be a successful freelancer. I am constantly doing online courses, networking, updating my website… the list is forever long!

Hope that this blog post has given you some insight into my life! Until next time my Beauties!

My Thoughts on Pregnancy

I've received a lot of questions lately on my pregnancy. The truth is every pregnancy is different. What one woman might experience another may not. I've heard some women who have had great pregnancies... and some not so much. Some have had severe morning sickness and some are so lucky they don't feel anything at all. I wouldn't judge any one pregnancy if you are trying to conceive - don't let anyone's stories scare you as yours will be completely different.

For those who know me, this is my first pregnancy and I've been pretty fortunate to have a pretty good one. I had the typical morning sickness and nausea during the first three months. I couldn't even head out the house without wanting to throw up. Oh the joys. I couldn't even enjoy the food my hubby cooked for my birthday this year. I was lucky enough to get lots of rest and sleep in all day. Thankfully that part is over!

I guess its true what they say.... the second trimester is the best. I had my energy back and I was able to finally eat again (yay!). I got up early everyday with no issues, I slept pretty decently, and I was able to do almost anything. I felt pretty good during this time.

I was finally able to eat anything I wanted to without feeling horrible after. I wish I had cravings like what you see on TV... I guess the best cravings I have are anything sweet or salty (and I am so not a salty person). Even though I'd indulge in lots of deserts, I still ate healthy. So... I had a good balanced diet :)

Now I'm into my third trimester and I have to say I am thankfully still full of energy - most days anyways. Notas much as I'd like these days but I'll take what I can get for now. During this time I am trying to rest as much as possible and stay stress free. Believe me when I say I rest whenever I can. The resting part is a bit hard to do since its getting harder to sleep. No matter what position I get into I just can't get comfy! Sadly the lack of sleep is hard to avoid but I'm hopeful I will get some rest soon! We won't even get to the amount of times I go to the restroom - day and night. I'll leave it at that!

I won't lie... I have been pretty tiny most of my life. Now at this stage it is hard to see myself gain almost 30 pounds and I still have two months left. But I have to remind myself that it's all good and it's all for my baby growing inside me. The hardest part so far was getting dressed for my friends wedding just a week ago. I tried on so many dresses and nothing fit. I am the type of person who never tries anything on. The process was frustrating I almost cried. But I didn't. I found something decent enough and being visibly pregnant, I think it didn't matter as long as I looked "ok". Thankfully, I don't have any other functions to go to for the rest of this year!

This experience has brought me complete happiness. To see my husband look at me and look at his growing baby brings me so much joy that I can't even express. I get bigger on a daily basis and this baby boy is moving like crazy! We cannot wait for our little guy to come into this world!

The benefit of hiring a professional Makeup Artist

The benefit of hiring a professional Makeup Artist

Getting your makeup done on your wedding day - is more than "just getting your makeup done".

Many women know how to do their makeup on a regular day-to-day basis. Ask yourself... after spending so much time and effort into planning your perfect day... when you look back on your professional photography pictures, do you want to look like your everyday or would you prefer to look like the bride you always dreamt of being?  You have already invested so much in your décor, venue... your dress - not to mention your photography. Don't skimp out on having the added luxury of being pampered and having your look last all day and a lifetime in your pictures. Remember, you are worth it.

There are so many reasons to hire makeup artist for your wedding day. Not only will you receive professional advice on how to stand out during your wedding day - you'll receive a flawless complexion which lasts all day and photographs beautifully throughout your busy - and memorable day.

Here are my reasons why you should hire a makeup artist and hair stylist for your big day:

Did someone say stress free? When you hire a professional - you can rest assured that you will be stress free on your wedding day. Be sure to hire someone with a written contract. This ensures the terms are clearly laid out and everyone is in agreement for what needs to happen for your wedding.  You have already worked so hard to make your wedding dreams come true - allow someone else to pamper you before you walk down the aisle. Be sure to book your #makeuptrial before your wedding day to ensure you get the look you want and your #makeupartist can make adjustments where needed. Enjoy the relaxing feeling of having someone come to you on your wedding day without having the hassle of rushing on the most important day of your life.

High end QUALITY makeup: A professional makeupartist carries quality makeup which is designed to last all day long. I have had many brides who don't even wear foundation and many don't want to invest in that $50 foundation which helps to give you that flawless look in your #professionalpictures. Hiring a makeup artist will allow you to have full access to #qualitymakeup and achieve that #flawless application without you breaking your budget for something you may vey well never use again on your own.

Remember, every artist has a different style. Be sure to look around and find someone who closely matches your own style. I don't believe makeup should ever change a person where you don't recognize yourself. Every woman is beautiful and makeup should simply enhance your natural beauty.

When you hire Beauty by Sacha for your weddingday - you will receive friendly customer service, someone who is fun loving and easy to get along with. I take the time to create a full schedule for my brides so that this way you don't need to worry about doing this on your own or worry about what time you need to start or if you and your wedding party will be ready on time. Rest assured for large parties #glambeautybysacha will have a team of #professionalmakeupartists and #professionalhairstylists to help you get #glammed for your wedding day on time.

Be sure to check out what my Bridal Beauties had to say about their #bridalexperience on their wedding day!
